Detailed description of Quarry Hills Country Club, CLOSED 2014

Quarry Hills Country Club is a Semi-Private 18-hole golf course located in Graham, North Carolina.

Quarry Hills Country Club first opened for play in 1970. The course was designed as a collaborative effort by Ellis Maples and Ed Seay.

The entire course was built on either farmland or an old rock quarry. The fairways are wide, and the greens are large and undulating. Water hazards come into play on several holes.

The course runs along the Haw River for many holes, requires excellent shot making as well as astute course management. Some holes feature water, some rocks, and other changes in elevation, but you will remember each of them for their unique characteristics.

Blue Tees - 6,617 yards; 71.9/130, Par: 70
White Tees - 6,013 yards; 68.7/125, Par 70
Red Tees - 4,905 yards; 68.0/116 Par: 70

The course closed in 2014.

This course has a ton of potential. Nice layout over rolling terrain, a couple of holes run along side the Haw Rive and an old quarry that are very picturesque. The tees and fairways are in good condition. Sand and water come into play on a number of holes. One of the ponds needs to be cleaned up, it was covered in algee. The real issues are that the cart paths and greens are in terrible condition. The cart paths are in serious disrepair, especially on the first few holes. The greens have suffered the summer stress common to the area and could be overlooked. However, nearly every green is polka dotted with crab grass the size of silver dollars or larger. Makes the putting surface very uneven. If someone could put a few thousand dollars into removing the crab grass, this would be a terrific course for the price. They could even raise the price if they fixed the problems. Club house was average for a small town golf course, nothing special, no real problems with it. Gas golf cars. Staff was friendly.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Worse than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
